November Shout Outs!
Shout Out: Junior Achievement
YouthForce NOLA’s Employer Hub is a platform designed to facilitate teachers’ requests for professionals to visit the classroom and share insights into their careers, judge competitions, and/or generally engage with students about career readiness.
Educators can also request job shadows to offer students firsthand glimpses into high-wage, high-demand companies and career pathways. We’re grateful to Junior Achievement of Greater New Orleans for partnering with us to coordinate this program.
Shout Out: LCMC Health
Sci High students visited LCMC Health‘s Children’s Hospital earlier this month for a job shadow. They toured the hospital, met with professionals in a variety of specialties, and learned about the many STEM-related careers available to them.
LCMC also hosted our school-year internship cohort for a site visit earlier this semester, showing students University Medical Center and introducing them to a variety of career pathways available at the hospital.
Shout Out: Gibbs Construction
Students from NOTEP (New Orleans Technical Education Provider) visited a Gibbs Constructionsite this month for a job shadow. Donning hard hats and reflective vests, the students met with construction professionals who gave them a close-up look at the work and shared insights about the career opportunities in this growing industry.
Shout Out: Bourbon House
Special thanks to Bourbon House for generously hosting our school-year interns and a group of local professionals for our Shine and Dine. This signature event provides an opportunity for students to practice soft skills, network with local professionals, and gather words of wisdom prior to their internship placements with local employers.
