Want to empower youth? Start with soft skills
YouthForce NOLA believes that every student in Orleans Parish can and should achieve economic prosperity. It’s up to all of us to develop the experiences needed to build their awareness and skills, and especially to foster and develop the transferable skills needed for success in any career pathway. We call them soft skills — and together with our partners we’re creating opportunities in New Orleans to build them.
Integration of soft skills has been a priority of the entire YouthForce NOLA collaborative of partners. At our Training Provider Advisory Council and Soft Skills Community of Practice, we have worked with partners to integrate soft skills into their curricula and share best practices with one another. During YouthForce Internships, we stress soft skills development with employers and coaches to ensure that our interns are developing skills that ensure success well-past one summer. And we have started programs that go even deeper!
Developed in conjunction with national soft skills leader MHA Labs, the new Soft Skills Empowerment Workshops have introduced and improved the soft skills development capacity of dozens of youth programs. Interested in attending a future workshop? Click here.
The Soft Skills Teacher Fellowship (SSTF) is reaching the culmination of its second year, and we are excited to share the practices and impact our fellows have had in the classroom and around their schools. At the Soft Skills Showcase, SSTF fellows will demonstrate the breadth and depth of soft skills integration through presentations and interactive booths. Want to see soft skills in action? Attend the Showcase.
