YouthForce Internship 2024

All interns:

  • Earn $2,100 over the summer

  • Gain real-world work experience

  • Develop soft skills and other work readiness skills to help you succeed in a high-paying career after school

Eligibility requirements:

  • Enrolled at an open enrollment public school in New Orleans/Orleans parish

  • Current Junior (Class of 2025)

  • Have an Orleans Parish address

  • Available to attend daily YFI training sessions (June) and work 20 hours per week at an internship (July)

Key dates:

  • Applications due: Wednesday, March 13 at 11:59 PM

  • Acceptance decisions via email: early April

  • Intern + Family Orientation: early-mid May

  • YFI Training: May 29 - June 20, Mon-Thurs, 8:30a - 1:00p

  • Internships: June 24 - July 26, exact schedules vary (90 hours total)

Learn about Real Careers alongside Real Career Professionals

Though career exposure, awareness, and integration into schools are paramount for helping students make decisions about their professional futures, we believe that application through work-based learning is where students really have the opportunity to grow and internalize both hard and soft skills. To provide students with the strongest work-based learning opportunities possible, we created YouthForce Internships (YFI). Students are placed at an internship with an employer from one of our skill clusters: business services, digital media/IT, health sciences, and skilled crafts.

Preparing our Teens for Career Success

YouthForce Internship is a paid work-based learning program that involves work readiness and soft skills training, one-on-one coaching, and a paid internship with a local company. During the training stage of YouthForce Internship, our students are taught a variety of soft skill and career development topics, ranging from interview skills to professional attire, that sharpen and strengthen their foundations as job applicants. During their internship, students learn more about potential careers, gain valuable work experience, internalize soft skills, and network with people in a fast-growing, high-wage industry.

In response to the coronavirus pandemic, YouthForce Internship transitioned to Virtual YouthForce Internship for 2020-2021. The Summer 2020, Spring 2021, and Summer 2021 programs were all fully virtual. We returned to in-person programming in Summer 2022 with the safety of our students and families as our top priority, and we plan to continue in-person programming moving forward.
